Arab Economic Forum - June 19, 2014

The 22nd Arab Economic Forum was launched yesterday, June 19th, by Prime Minister Tamam Salam. Around 600 participants from 14 different countries were present to focus on the situation in the Arab countries. 

Mr. Salim Sfeir, CEO Bank of Beirut, and keynote speaker, highlighted 4 challenges the Lebanese banks are facing: complying with Basel III, globalization and investing in high tech industries, the human factor, the penetration of new markets. Sfeir then asked for the backup and assistance of the public sector and the media asking them, “…to understand us and understand our work.” 

Bank of Beirut Chairman ended by saying, “We are fine and our banking sector is fine. We have weathered the worldwide economic crisis and likewise, we have been weathering our local political crises. Our focus is on our youth; they hold the competence and the energy we need to develop and renovate our sector.”
